Peter Gilchirst wins World Billiards Irish Open 2023
Congratulations to Peter Gilchrist winning the World Billiards Irish Open 2023, with an incredible break of 428 as he recovered from a deficit of over 300 points to defeat David Causier in the final.
Gilchrist, a four-time world champion, had no trouble qualifying for the knockout stage, winning all four of his group matches and making nine three-figure scores, including a 306.
The Singaporean then defeated Christian Kirk 614-325 in the quarter-finals, Ryan Mears 597-270 in the semi-finals, and defending champion Robert Hall 614-324 in the finals.
Causier hit a 454 during his last 16 match against Kenny Campbell, then later in the same match made an unfinished effort of 504 - the event's highest break.
after Gilchrist miscued at the top of the table early on, Causier punished with a break of 354 to put himself in the driving seat with a lead of 333 points.
Gilchrist still trailed by 321 points in the second half, but after his opponent missed, he built a spectacular break of 428 under pressure to go ahead with time running out.
